Diageo-backed incubator Pronghorn has invested in three Black-owned American whiskey and Tequila brands.
Pronghorn has invested in three brands in what it calls ‘high-growth’ categories: Abisola Whiskey, Los Hermanos Tequila 1978, and Alexander James Whiskey.
Pronghorn cited data from IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, which predicts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) increase of 2% for whiskey and 9% for Tequila by 2027, outpacing the rate of total spirits, which is expected to rise by 1.6%.
The new investments bring the company closer to its ambition of supporting 57 Black-owned spirits brands in the next 10 years.
Jomaree Pinkard, CEO of Pronghorn, said: “In just one year, we’ve invested in 20 Black-owned spirits brands, changing these founders’ lives forever, all while steadily increasing the percentage of Black executives and employees in the overall spirits labour force.
Los Hermanos Tequila 1978 was founded in 2020 by brothers Donta and William Henson and offers an award-winning taste profile sure to pair well with those you treasure most.
The range consists of Los Hermanos Tequila Blanco, with hints of banana peel, eucalyptus, white pepper, and tutti frutti on the palate, and Los Hermanos Tequila Reposado, described as floral on the nose with flavours of rosemary, thyme, vanilla bean, and white flowers.
Los Hermanos 1978 Tequila celebrates the spirit of brotherhood, sisterhood, and the moments that allow us to slow down and connect meaningfully with those most important to us. It is in moments like these that only a truly exceptional, artfully crafted tequila will do.
